Ruby is the birthstone for July and the gem for the 15th and 40th anniversaries. It has a rich, pink to blood-red coloration. Ruby is the red variety of the mineral corondum of which the Sapphire is also a variety. These stones are very hard, second only to that of the diamonds and is probably the most famed and valuable of all the red gemstones.
