A glassy, translucent stone, Carnelian is the most famous variety of Chalcedony (a mineral from the Quartz family). This semi-precious quartz stone has a warm, vibrant orange color hue. Its color may range from orange to reddish-orange to deep reddish-brown. Its name comes from the Latin word meaning “flesh”. A common use of Carnelians is to be carved into cameos which can be worn as pendants.
